They say you don't need a car

in this city so when we

moved here we kept our little runabout

in the garage, season after season

until the battery died the tyres

went flat and it started to stink of mildew

We forgot to keep it insured

stuffed diy supplies in the boot

carpets and cushions in the back seat

plant pots and paint pots balanced on the roof

One spring we said right, let's

clean her up, take her out for a spin

but we never got round to it

and she's still there rotting away

barely visible now beneath

the years of neglect
